Serious Personal Injury, Frequently Asked Questions

You weren’t expecting to hire an attorney, so it’s understandable you have questions. If you don’t find the answer to your question, just give us a call – we’re always glad to talk with you.

Attorneys are expensive how can I afford to hire an attorney?

You will not owe any money out-of-pocket for attorney’s fees or expenses. We work on a contingency fee basis. That means our fees will be a percentage of the funds recovered for you. No fees or expenses will be owed if we are not successful in making a recovery for you and you will not owe any out-of-pocket expenses. Case costs are also reimbursed from any settlement.

Can I wait until later to pursue my legal claims?

It’s extremely important to quickly enlist the services of a qualified attorney before evidence is compromised, witnesses are unavailable, or memories have softened faded. It’s not easy since you’re already innundated with medical, financial, and life issues resulting from this situation, but selecting your attorney should be a first step to helping you resolve many of your concerns. It’s also extremely important that you refrain from speaking with insurance representatives or signing their paperwork until you’ve spoken with an attorney.

How long will it take to resolve my case?

Each case is different but we will move as quickly as possible to obtain a quick trial setting for you. Since we’re dealing with a serious injury or death, we will request as trial date as soon as possible so that you can have your day in court quickly. Often this results in trial dates within 12 months of filing a case. These timelines will be longer for wrongful death claims.

I need to focus on my medical treatments, how will I have time to pursue legal claims?

Taking care of your medical needs is, and should be, your first priority. DuBose Law Firm will help you keep that focus by minimizing as much as possible how much of your time your legal claims will take. We’ll travel to you for appointments. Many items can be handled by telephone or mail.

It was months before I was diagnosed with a problem, how can I bring a claim?

Talk to us. Generally, while earlier is preferable, we can still work with you and all parties to get the information needed to proceed with your case.

I’m not sure what happened to injure me, so how can I bring a claim?

We’ll sit down with you to completely understand your situation and determine if there is sufficient information and the next steps.
